No estoy acostumbrada a la paz y la tranquilidad. Crec\u00ed con ocho hermanos, me cas\u00e9 con mi marido Dan semanas despu\u00e9s de graduarme en la universidad y tuve mi primer test de embarazo positivo apenas unas semanas despu\u00e9s. En los a\u00f1os siguientes, tuvimos un total de ocho hijos. Recuerdo un experimento que hice una ma\u00f1ana, cuando ten\u00edan entre 18 meses y 13 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

8:15 a.m:<\/strong> Me encerr\u00e9 en el ba\u00f1o.
\n8:15 a.m. y 4 segundos: <\/strong>The baby\u2019s fat fingers appeared at the bottom of the doorway. \u201cMama?\u201d he called out in alarm. He plunked his bottom on the floor just outside the door and whined.
\n8:17 a.m:<\/strong> 3-year-old beat on door ferociously. \u201cI weally need some toast!\u201d
\n8:18 a.m:<\/strong> 11-year-old called through door. \u201cI put my baseball pants in the hamper half an hour ago. Are they ready yet?\u201d
\n8:21 a.m: <\/strong>5-year-old slipped a crayoned princess drawing under the door and inquired, \u201cHow do you spell Happily Ever After?\u201d
\n8:22 a.m: <\/strong>9-year-old tried the doorknob and sighed loudly. \u201cIs there anything to eat besides Cheerios and toast?\u201d
\n8:23 a.m: <\/strong>I rushed from the bathroom and was greeted by a line of children with hands on their hips. \u201cFinally!\u201d<\/p>\n

Por eso me asombro cuando leo sobre la vida de alguien como Santa Colette, una mujer que pas\u00f3 cuatro a\u00f1os de oraci\u00f3n y penitencia como anacoreta en una celda min\u00fascula que s\u00f3lo ten\u00eda una peque\u00f1a ventana que daba a una iglesia. Una vida tan diferente de la m\u00eda.<\/p>\n

Colette de Corbie, cuya fiesta celebramos el 6 de marzo, naci\u00f3 en Francia en 1381. Tras cuatro a\u00f1os como anacoreta, abandon\u00f3 su celda y se uni\u00f3 a las Clarisas, donde reintrodujo la primitiva Regla de Santa Clara, con especial \u00e9nfasis en la pobreza. Colette lleg\u00f3 a fundar 17 conventos y una rama reformadora de la Orden conocida como las Colettines.<\/p>\n

A Santa Colette se le atribuyen curaciones milagrosas, como la curaci\u00f3n de una parturienta y la recuperaci\u00f3n de un beb\u00e9 que hab\u00eda nacido muerto. Se la considera patrona de los partos y de los ni\u00f1os enfermos.<\/p>\n

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton never locked herself away in a cell, but she may have daydreamed of it now and then as she raised her own family of five children and even added her husband\u2019s half-siblings to their household upon the death of his parents. I think every mother has moments when the quiet life of a nun locked away in a cell sounds downright glamorous.<\/p>\n

After she became a widow, God did indeed call Elizabeth to religious life, but it did not begin with years in a cell. In 1809, she founded the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph\u2019s, the first community of women religious established in the United States. In the years that followed, there was likely little peace and quiet as Elizabeth went on to grow her religious community, and the schools and orphanages they started.<\/p>\n

Like St. Colette, Elizabeth found peace in the presence of God, no matter what trials she suffered or what challenges she faced. \u201cYou know the general principle: that God is everywhere,\u201d Elizabeth once wrote. \u201cOn the throne of His glory among the blessed indeed, but also throughout the whole universe which He fills, governs and preserves, ruling it by wisdom and grace. This we learn in our infancy, as in all of our memory in childhood. Yet in the practice of life, we live along as if we scarcely remembered that God sees us.\u201d<\/p>\n
