Michael Depcik, chaplain for the Deaf ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and national advocate for the Deaf Catholic Community offered his thoughts on Mother Seton\u2019s continued relevance in this 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cSt. Elizabeth Ann Seton shows that holiness is possible in any station in life\u2026 as a popular socialite, busy wife and mother, destitute widow, religious teacher, and leader. In her life, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton had faced many barriers and challenges due to discrimination and prejudice. Yet her faith deepened, and with God\u2019s help, she was able to overcome them and became holy and interiorly beautiful. \u00a0She is a wonderful role model for Deaf people because we face similar challenges and barriers as hers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>50 for 50 is a series of stories, quotes, clips, photos, and\/or devotional statements from ordinary people to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the canonization of Elizabeth Ann Seton as the first native-born American saint.<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fr.
