{"id":218480,"date":"2025-07-16T13:24:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T17:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/setonshrine.org\/?p=218480"},"modified":"2025-07-25T09:00:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T13:00:47","slug":"she-recalls-the-canonization-as-a-big-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/setonshrine.org\/es\/she-recalls-the-canonization-as-a-big-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"She Recalls the Canonization as a \u201cBig Deal\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>(serie 50 por 50)<\/em>\u00a0 I would like to share a memory of Sacred Heart School in Glyndon, MD on the day of Elizabeth Ann Seton\u2019s canonization. \u00a0I was a 2nd grader at Sacred Heart on 9\/14\/75. \u00a0The Sisters of Charity, who were teachers at our school, planned a day of celebration. \u00a0There was a Mass outside in the parking lot which was in front of the convent. \u00a0I remember a large crowd of parents and students crowded back into the \u201cgrove\u201d and woods next to the convent. \u00a0All girls with first or middle names \u201cElizabeth\u201d were given important roles in the Mass. I remember reading a petition at that mass. \u00a0I don\u2019t remember all the details about the rest of the day, but the entire day was fun and everyone was happy. \u00a0(kind of like a field day! not a regular school day!). I guess what I\u2019m trying to say is this was a BIG DEAL throughout the school.<\/p>\n<p>My teacher, Sister Mary Michael Burns, gave me a gift that day\u2026a small plastic frame with a paper print of Elizabeth Ann Seton. \u00a0\u00a0Behind that piece of paper was a relic \u2014 a tiny piece of cloth Elizabeth had touched. \u00a0I still have it today. \u00a0I can\u2019t believe it has been 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elizabeth Ann (Maher) Moreno<br \/>\nWalkersville, MD<\/p>\n<p><em>50 for 50 is a series of stories, quotes, clips, photos, and\/or devotional statements from ordinary people to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the canonization of Elizabeth Ann Seton as the first native-born American saint.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"><strong>Photo caption:<\/strong>\u00a0 Elizabeth with her siblings in 1975.
