More than a thousand people filled the pews and outer aisles of the Basilica at The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton for Sunday morning Mass in honor of the 50th anniversary of Seton’s canonization.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

William Lori,\u00a0Archbishop of Baltimore and vice president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, led the Mass in Emmitsburg and spoke of the life and significance of\u00a0Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Seton, born Elizabeth Ann\u00a0Bayley in New York in 1774, was raised in an\u00a0Episcopal family, according to the National Women’s History Museum.<\/p>\n
