Come experience a school day at St. Joseph’s School, Elizabeth Ann Seton’s school, as it was in the year 1818. Meet Sisters of Charity and Students attending the school who were a part of her world, as you experience classes, games and activities of the past. This year, become a part of the story as you meet and befriend a young lady who hopes to become a student and help her join the school.
What To Expect:
- Cost: $8 adults, $5 age 7-18, age 6 and under free
- Most visitors will spend about two hours at the Shrine.
- Encounter historical interpreters, many of whom portray actual students from Mother Seton’s time! Don’t be shy: you are encouraged to speak with them, but don’t be surprised if their knowledge doesn’t exceed the year 1818.
- Learn how to become a historical interpreter and take on a character of your own creation!
- Try on costume pieces and learn how to deliver a monologue.
- Try our hands-on demonstration of knitting and cross stitch
- Play outdoor recreational games of the past!
- Discover places of the past by exploring maps and drawing them.
- Play some games with our Junior History Interpreters as they teach you how to have “recreation” at Mother Seton’s school.
