Joseph’s Story — Humbled by Everyday Blessings

Everyday miracles

Joseph Schuler and his family visited the Shrine often, taking in the historic houses, cemetery, the museum and gift shop, and attending Mass in the Basilica. When he had to buy a car after both he and his daughter walked away unscathed from separate crashes, a chance encounter with a salesman helped him feel Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s presence in his daily life.

“I turned to Mother Seton: I hate buying cars, please help me. The salesman put on his hard press. I saw prayer cards behind his desk – one was of Mother Seton. When I asked about it his demeanor changed. He told me about his large family, his Catholic faith journey, and more. He said I have the perfect car for you. I didn’t even drive it. It was a humble brown color, exceptionally clean, and had low mileage. I thought this is what Mother Seton wants my family to drive. She had moved the heart of a like-minded soul to truly assist me in an hour of need.”
