Press: Seton Shrine to celebrate Mother Seton’s 50th canonization anniversary

The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, Md., will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the canonization of the first native-born saint in the United States with three days of family events, Sept. 12-14.

The weekend will begin with a Candlelight Concert Under the Stars Sept. 12 featuring the Escencia Quartet. Food trucks and a cash bar will be on-site. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets.

The next day will begin with Mass at 11:30 a.m. A livestream lecture by Notre Dame professor Kathleen Sprows Cummings will follow along with special tours of the Seton Shrine Museum and historic homes.

On the golden anniversary of Mother Seton’s canonization, Sept. 14, Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori will celebrate Mass in the shrine’s historic basilica at 11 a.m., followed by live music and performances from local artists. The Mass will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. on EWTN.
